Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rainfall is gaining strength across Kerala, prompting authorities to issue a Yellow Alert in seven districts on Thursday.
The alert has been declared for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of strong winds accompanying the rain and advised the public to remain vigilant.
According to weather officials, central Kerala and the northern Malabar region are likely to receive intense rainfall in the coming days. However, no ban has been imposed on fishing activities along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts at present.
The IMD has also forecast a fresh spell of heavy rain from June 21. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on that day, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions.
