Thiruvananthapuram: A 70-year-old man from Thrikkaruva in Kollam district has died after contracting leptospirosis (rat fever), health officials said on Thursday.
At present, seven people are undergoing treatment for leptospirosis in various hospitals across Kollam district. The Health Department also stated that around 20 people with symptoms of the disease are under observation.
Meanwhile, fever cases continue to surge across Kerala. A total of 12,191 people sought treatment for fever-related illnesses on Wednesday alone. Of these, 105 cases were confirmed as dengue fever, while 19 people tested positive for leptospirosis.
In Idukki district, six new malaria cases were reported on Wednesday, raising concerns over the spread of seasonal infectious diseases in the state. Health authorities have urged the public to take preventive measures and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
