Low-Pressure System and Cyclonic Circulation to Lash Kerala with Four More Days of Rain; Alert Sounded

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for four more days of rain and thunderstorms as a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal continues to influence weather patterns across the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning is likely to persist until Friday.

According to meteorologists, the low-pressure area is expected to move northeastward and gradually weaken within the next 24 hours. At the same time, a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea near the south Kerala coast is adding to atmospheric instability. The combined effect of these systems is set to keep rain activity active across multiple districts.

Even as showers continue, rising daytime temperatures have prompted a parallel warning from the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA). Officials cautioned that increasing heat levels could trigger sunstroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other serious health concerns.

Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant during thunderstorm activity, avoid open spaces during lightning strikes, and take necessary precautions to stay safe amid fluctuating weather conditions.
