New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for stronger community participation in Anganwadi Centres and greater coordination between the Centre and states to improve women and child development services.
Chairing the valedictory session of the two-day National Departmental Summit on Women and Child Development at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, Modi suggested organising similar Chintan Shivirs at district and local body levels, including special sessions for Anganwadi workers.
He called for greater involvement of universities, medical students, NSS and NCC volunteers in Anganwadi activities and stressed the need to improve adolescent girls’ health and nutrition. He also urged departments to promote women’s safety, cleanliness, local products and women’s economic empowerment through coordinated efforts.
Modi said children nurtured in Anganwadi Centres today would play a key role in building a developed India.
