Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cautionary advisory for Kerala as temperatures are expected to rise sharply across the state over the next few days.
According to the weather department, temperatures from Sunday to Tuesday could be 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal in several parts of the state.
The State Disaster Management Authority has urged people to take precautions as prolonged exposure to high temperatures could lead to heatstroke, sunburn and dehydration.
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels have also increased across Kerala, with the UV Index currently ranging between 7 and 8, indicating a high level of exposure risk.
Punalur recorded the highest temperature on Saturday at 36.2°C, which was 4.7°C above normal. Several other parts of the state also recorded temperatures around 2°C above the seasonal average.
Authorities have advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly during peak afternoon hours, and to stay adequately hydrated.
