Justice K. Vinod Chandran Sworn In as Supreme Court Judge, Strengthens Apex Court Bench

In a significant development for India’s judiciary, Justice K. Vinod Chandran officially took oath as a judge of the Supreme Court of India on January 16, 2025. The oath was administered by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna during a formal ceremony held at 10:30 a.m. in New Delhi.

Justice Chandran’s appointment fills a crucial gap in the Supreme Court, bringing the total number of judges to 33, just one short of the sanctioned strength of 34. His elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, which noted the absence of representation from the Kerala High Court in the apex court.

Before joining the Supreme Court, Justice Chandran served as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court since March 29, 2023. His distinguished judicial career began with his appointment to the Kerala High Court in 2011, giving him over a decade of experience in handling diverse legal matters.

Justice Chandran’s induction is expected to significantly bolster the Supreme Court’s ability to address complex and evolving legal challenges, thanks to his extensive judicial expertise and unwavering commitment to justice.
