Pinarayi Vijayan Becomes Second Longest-Serving Chief Minister in Kerala’s History

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has now become the second longest-serving Chief Minister in the history of the state. As of November 14, 2022, he set a new milestone by surpassing the record for holding the Chief Minister’s post continuously for the most number of days.

Vijayan assumed office as Chief Minister on May 25, 2016, and has been serving continuously since then, leading two successive Left Democratic Front (LDF) governments. Under his leadership, the LDF was re-elected in 2021 — a rare achievement in Kerala’s political landscape where power often alternates between coalitions.

The record previously held by other long-serving leaders, such as K. Karunakaran, was broken in terms of uninterrupted tenure, making Pinarayi the only CM in the state to hold office continuously for such an extended period.

Throughout his term, Pinarayi Vijayan has overseen significant developments in sectors like health, education, infrastructure, and disaster management, earning both praise and criticism. His tenure has also been marked by strong political stances and efforts to modernize public services in the state.

As he continues in office, Vijayan’s legacy is being closely watched by political observers, especially as he cements his place in Kerala’s history as one of its most enduring leaders.
