Kathmandu: Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Wednesday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his message of solidarity and offer of humanitarian assistance as the country grapples with devastating flash floods.
Shah thanked Modi for reaching out and extending condolences over the loss of lives caused by the disaster. In a social media post, the Nepalese prime minister said Kathmandu deeply appreciated Modi’s “warm words of solidarity” and his offer of assistance for rescue and relief operations.
Nearly 100 people have been killed and more than 750 others, including 133 Indian nationals, are reported missing after a massive flash flood originating in Tibet swept through parts of central Nepal.
The floods have caused widespread destruction, damaging towns and villages, washing away vital bridges and severely affecting around a dozen hydropower projects.
Amid the ongoing rescue efforts, Nepal is working to locate those missing and provide relief to communities affected by the disaster. India has offered all possible humanitarian assistance to support Nepal’s emergency response.
