New Delhi: Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday released the book “The Voice of Justice: Justice Gavai Speaks” at the Vice-President’s House, describing it as an important contribution to India’s constitutional and legal discourse.
The book, edited by Prof. (Dr.) S. Sivakumar and published by Thomson Reuters in association with the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA), is a collection of speeches, lectures and reflections by former Chief Justice of India Justice B.R. Gavai.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-President said the book highlights key constitutional principles, including the rule of law, social justice and democratic governance. He described the Constitution of India as a living document that has successfully balanced continuity with change, rights with duties, and authority with accountability over the past 75 years.
Radhakrishnan said the judiciary plays a crucial role in protecting constitutional values and maintaining public trust in the rule of law. He stressed that strong institutions depend not only on authority but also on integrity, constitutional discipline and public confidence.
Emphasising the need for inclusive governance, the Vice-President said constitutional institutions must remain responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens and work towards empowering marginalised communities. He also praised Justice B.R. Gavai for his commitment to constitutional values, judicial balance and ensuring access to justice.
Appealing to members of the legal fraternity, Radhakrishnan urged lawyers to regularly provide pro bono legal services to the poor, saying equal access to justice is essential in a democratic society.
The event was attended by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, Supreme Court Judge Justice Vikram Nath, former CJI Justice B.R. Gavai, legal scholars and members of the legal fraternity.
