Rampurhat: Former Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly and former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Ashis Banerjee was found hanging at a TMC party office in Birbhum district on Sunday morning, police sources said.
Banerjee’s body was discovered at the party office located near his residence in Rampurhat. A purported suicide note was also recovered from the premises, according to the police.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the exact circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be established and further investigation is underway.
