Treated Wastewater Reuse Key to Ganga Rejuvenation, Says Paatil

New Delhi: Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Paatil on Thursday stressed that the safe reuse of treated wastewater remains a key priority under the Namami Gange programme and directed states and urban local bodies to speed up the implementation of wastewater reuse projects while ensuring strict adherence to prescribed quality standards.

Chairing the 19th meeting of the Empowered Task Force on Ganga Rejuvenation, Paatil reviewed the progress of the Namami Gange mission and said treated wastewater used for irrigation and other purposes must undergo regular quality monitoring to protect public health and maintain agricultural productivity.

The meeting also reviewed the completion of city-level wastewater reuse action plans for Agra, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. The plans identify opportunities to utilise treated wastewater in sectors including thermal power plants, railways, urban landscaping, and irrigation as part of efforts to promote sustainable water management.
