Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is set to move a resolution in the state Assembly on Thursday, urging the Centre to recognise Tamil as the principal language of the Madras High Court, official sources said.
The proposed resolution is expected to highlight Tamil’s status as a classical language and the substantial development of legal terminology in the language.
It is also likely to point to the availability of technology-assisted translation facilities to support the use of Tamil in judicial proceedings.
According to the sources, the resolution, to be introduced by Chief Minister Vijay, will call upon the Union government to approve Tamil as the principal language of the Madras High Court.
A discussion on the resolution is also expected to take place in the Assembly.
