India, Japan Strengthen Strategic Partnership at 16th Annual Summit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership during the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit held in New Delhi.

The two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in three key areas—defence and security, economic partnership, and people-to-people exchanges—to promote shared growth, prosperity, and resilience in the Indo-Pacific region.

They also pledged to strengthen maritime security, defence technology collaboration, and economic security while advancing cooperation in energy, innovation, and emerging technologies. The leaders directed officials to hold the fourth India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo later this year and welcomed progress in joint defence initiatives, including the JAIMEX 25 naval exercise and the UNICORN defence technology project.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific and agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors.
