Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds across Kerala until Monday. The alert urges residents to stay cautious as isolated areas are expected to experience intense downpours.
Today, heavy rainfall is forecast in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts, with similar conditions expected in Wayanad and Kannur on Monday. In response, the IMD has placed these districts under a yellow alert, which signifies expected rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
Adding to the concerns, wind speeds are predicted to reach 30–40 kmph on Thursday and Friday, raising the risk of damage in affected areas.
Meanwhile, coastal Kerala faces the threat of high waves due to the “Kallakkadal” phenomenon. The National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of sea surges ranging from 0.8 to 1.7 meters until 11:30 p.m. on Friday. Fishermen and coastal residents are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution amid the risk of sea intrusion.
