New Delhi: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said southern states are set to benefit from the proposed increase in the strength of the Lok Sabha to a maximum of 850 seats.
He stated that the number of constituencies would be increased proportionately across states as part of the delimitation process, ensuring balanced representation.
Rijiju’s remarks come ahead of a special three-day session of Parliament scheduled to begin on Thursday, where a series of key legislative proposals will be taken up. These include the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, aimed at implementing the Women’s Reservation Act from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
The legislative package also includes the Delimitation Bill, 2026, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which have already been circulated among Members of Parliament for consideration.
