New Delhi: Delhi has been placed under heightened security ahead of the two-day 18th BRICS Summit, with a massive deployment of police and paramilitary personnel and temporary traffic restrictions planned across the capital.
Around 15,000 Delhi Police personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed to secure key locations and routes ahead of the summit, which begins on Saturday at Bharat Mandapam. More than 500 CCTV cameras are also being used to strengthen surveillance across the city.
Security measures have been intensified along routes expected to be used by visiting VVIPs, with security agencies closely monitoring sensitive locations and major entry and exit points.The Delhi Traffic Police said the city will not be completely shut down during the summit. However, commuters are likely to face temporary stoppages, diversions and restrictions whenever VVIP convoys move through designated routes.
Authorities have advised residents and commuters to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time during the summit period.
