Siddaramaiah Meets Rahul Gandhi After Resigning as Karnataka CM

A day after stepping down as Karnataka Chief Minister, senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Friday to discuss his future role in the party and the formation of the new government in the state.

The meeting took place at 10 Janpath, the residence of Sonia Gandhi. Siddaramaiah was accompanied by his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah.

Sources said Siddaramaiah thanked Rahul Gandhi for the opportunity to serve Karnataka and informed him that he had resigned from the post as directed by the party leadership. He is also believed to have sought Cabinet positions for his supporters and a key role for his son in the new Karnataka government.

Later, Siddaramaiah met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and discussed government formation and his future responsibilities within the party.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is expected to become the next chief minister, is likely to hold separate discussions with senior Congress leaders on the Cabinet formation.

A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party is expected to be held on Saturday to formally elect the new chief minister of Karnataka.
