Six labourers were killed and three others injured after a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed over the Betwa river in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district early Friday, officials said.
The accident occurred around 3 am between Parsani and Kandaur villages when a slab of the bridge under construction between Maurakandar and Kurara suddenly gave way.
According to officials, several labourers working on the bridge project were sleeping on the upper portion of the slab at the time of the incident. The structure collapsed following a storm in the area, trapping the workers under the debris.
Rescue operations were launched immediately, and the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment. Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
