The Kerala High Court has postponed the bail plea hearing of businessman Boby Chemmanur to January 14, extending his stay in judicial custody. Chemmanur is currently lodged in Kakkanad District Jail following his arrest in connection with a sexual harassment complaint filed by actress Honey Rose.
The court granted additional time for the state government to respond to the bail application. During the hearing, the court emphasized that public figures must exercise caution while speaking in public and questioned the urgency behind Chemmanur’s plea for immediate bail.
In his petition, Chemmanur claimed innocence, alleging that the complaint was a result of personal vendetta and social media harassment. He argued that his arrest violated Supreme Court guidelines, as the case involves a crime punishable with less than seven years of imprisonment. Chemmanur also cited health concerns and his willingness to cooperate with the investigation as grounds for bail.
The prosecution, however, opposed the bail plea, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations. Earlier, the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate had remanded Chemmanur for 14 days after rejecting his bail plea.
The High Court will reconsider the bail request on January 14.
