Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday rejected reports claiming that the Centre was considering imposing a tax, cess or surcharge on foreign travel.
Responding to media reports suggesting that such a proposal was under discussion at the highest levels of government, Modi termed the claims “totally false” and said there was “not an iota of truth” in them.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister clarified that the government has no plans to introduce restrictions or additional levies on overseas travel.
He also reiterated the Centre’s commitment to improving the “Ease of Doing Business” and “Ease of Living” for citizens.
The reports had claimed that the government was examining the possibility of imposing a cess or surcharge on foreign travel, though no final decision had been taken. Modi’s direct rebuttal to the speculation is being seen as a rare intervention by the Prime Minister on a media report.
