Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound grief over the passing of iconic playback singer P. Jayachandran, who died on January 9, 2025, at the age of 80. Remembered for his soulful voice and extraordinary contributions to Indian music, Jayachandran’s death marks the end of a glorious era in the music industry.
In a heartfelt tribute on social media, PM Modi stated, “Shri P. Jayachandran Ji was blessed with a legendary voice that conveyed a wide range of emotions. His soulful renditions across various languages will continue to touch hearts for generations to come. Pained by his passing. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief.”
Affectionately known as ‘Bhava Gayakan’ for his emotive singing, P. Jayachandran’s illustrious career spanned over five decades. He recorded more than 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, enchanting audiences across generations. His collaborations with legendary composers and his ability to evoke deep emotions cemented his place as one of India’s most cherished musical icons.
Jayachandran’s exceptional talent earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1986, several Kerala and Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and the esteemed J.C. Daniel Award in 2020—the highest honor in Malayalam cinema.

His funeral will be held at his ancestral home in Chendamangalam on Saturday at 3 pm. Though P. Jayachandran is no longer with us, his timeless music will continue to inspire and resonate with music lovers for generations to come.
