Actress Ritabhari Chakraborty Calls for Investigation into Sexual Harassment in Bengali Film Industry

Inspired by the Hema Committee report on Mollywood, Ritabhari urges West Bengal’s Chief Minister to take action.

Bengali actress Ritabhari Chakraborty has made headlines by demanding a thorough investigation into the sexual harassment issues plaguing the Bengali film industry, also known as Tollywood. Following the shocking revelations in the Hema Committee report on the Malayalam film industry, Ritabhari took to social media to describe Tollywood as a “sugar-coated brothel.” She accused influential actors, producers, and directors of exploiting women in the industry without facing any consequences.

In her impassioned plea, Ritabhari urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to initiate an immediate investigation to prevent further incidents of rape or assault. She also called on her fellow actresses to break their silence and expose the predators who have long operated unchecked in the industry.

Ritabhari’s bold statements have ignited a conversation about the need for reforms in Tollywood, echoing the concerns raised in the Hema Committee report, which highlighted the widespread sexual harassment and poor working conditions faced by women in the Malayalam film industry​
