The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare organised the North Zone Agriculture Conference in Lucknow on Thursday, bringing together key policymakers, scientists, and farmers to chart a future roadmap for the sector.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Ministers of State, and representatives from six states and three Union Territories participated in the conference.
Addressing the gathering, Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasised that each state should design its agricultural plans based on local climatic conditions and specific needs. He also called for faster progress in areas such as quality seed distribution, Kisan ID implementation, and expansion of Kisan Credit Card coverage.
The Union Minister issued a strong warning against the circulation of counterfeit fertilisers and seeds, urging strict action and a ban on such inputs. He also stressed the importance of balanced fertiliser use to ensure sustainable agricultural growth.
Speaking at the event, Adityanath highlighted the need to bridge the gap between research and practice, stating that farmers will benefit fully only when innovations developed in laboratories reach the fields. He underlined technology adoption, farmer training, and value addition as key drivers for transforming agriculture.
The conference focused on preparing a coordinated strategy for the upcoming Kharif and Rabi seasons. It also served as a platform for interaction among progressive farmers, scientists, and government representatives, aiming to create a unified and forward-looking approach to agricultural development.
