Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the banks of the Hooghly River in Kolkata on Friday, highlighting the cultural and spiritual significance of the Ganga in Bengal’s identity.
Describing the river as an integral part of the state’s soul, the Prime Minister said the Ganga continues to shape the traditions, faith, and daily life of millions. He noted that the connection between the river and the people of Bengal reflects India’s enduring civilisational heritage.
During the visit, Modi also reiterated the Centre’s commitment to the development of West Bengal, stressing the need to balance cultural preservation with modern growth. He emphasized that infrastructure development and heritage conservation must go hand in hand to ensure inclusive progress.
The visit forms part of the Prime Minister’s broader engagement in the state, combining cultural outreach with a renewed focus on development initiatives.
