Thrissur District Collector Shikha Surendran has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on April 24 in view of an intense heatwave warning.
The order applies to all schools and colleges, including professional institutions. The decision follows an orange alert issued by the Central Meteorological Department for April 23 and 24, along with forecasts indicating that temperatures in the district could rise up to 40°C.
Authorities stated that institutions may conduct classes online in case of urgent academic requirements. However, the holiday will not affect examinations already scheduled by universities, boards, or the state government.
The Collector, who also serves as the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, said the measure has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid rising temperatures.
