The Health Department has put in place extensive arrangements to tackle medical emergencies during the Thrissur Pooram, in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions.
Around 100 healthcare personnel, including doctors, staff nurses, and paramedical staff, have been deployed for special duty. At Thrissur General Hospital, three medical teams comprising 125 members will function in shifts. Specialist doctors from various district hospitals and the Government Medical College have also been mobilised, with 70 hospital beds kept ready.
Ten medical teams equipped with ambulances have been stationed at six key centres along Swaraj Round, including Bata, New Kerala Time House, Dhanalakshmi Bank, Swapna Theatre, High Road Junction, and the control room area.
In addition, nearly 70 ambulances with oxygen cylinders, medicines, and essential medical equipment have been deployed at strategic locations such as Thekkinkadu Maidan vicinity, Vadakke Stand, Shaktan, KSRTC stand, East Fort, and West Fort.
The District Medical Officer has also directed private hospitals in Thrissur and nearby areas to be fully prepared to handle emergencies.
Public Advisory Issued
Authorities have issued health advisories for those attending the festival:
- Elderly people, children, pregnant women, and those with illnesses are advised to avoid the event between 11 AM and 3 PM.
- Attendees should stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and remain in shaded areas as much as possible.
- Drinking water regularly and consuming fluids like salted lemon water or rice gruel water is recommended to prevent dehydration.
- Carrying umbrellas or wearing caps and consuming water-rich fruits are advised.
- People are cautioned against consuming unsafe beverages from roadside vendors.
- Anyone experiencing discomfort is urged to seek immediate help from nearby medical teams or ambulances.
The measures aim to ensure the safety of thousands of devotees expected to attend the festival under extreme weather conditions.
