The Thrissur Corporation health wing seized stale, rotten, and contaminated food items from several hotels in the city during inspections conducted ahead of the Thrissur Pooram.
The action triggered protests by councillors of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who alleged that the authorities failed to disclose the names of the establishments involved, thereby protecting those responsible.
The councillors staged a demonstration in front of the Mayor’s chamber, demanding strict action against the hotels found violating food safety norms. They also criticised the civic body for not taking strong punitive measures.
The protest was inaugurated by Parliamentary Party Leader Raghunath C. Menon. Councillors Vinshi Arun, Krishna Mohan, Padmini Shaji, Adv. Reshma Menon, Vinod Krishna, and Mumdaz Chinchu led the agitation.
Several party leaders, including Mahila Morcha District President Sheetal Raj, General Secretary Bhagirathi Chandran, BJP District Committee member K. Radhakrishnan, and Area Secretary Vinod Kumar, also participated in the protest.
