New Delhi: The Ministry of Power has approved the export of electricity to Nepal for 18 hours a day from September 13 to December 31, 2026, to help the neighbouring country meet its power requirements following recent floods.
Under the approval, India will supply up to 600 MW through the Muzaffarpur–Dhalkebar 400 kV double-circuit transmission line and up to 54 MW through the Tanakpur–Mahendranagar 132 kV single-circuit line.
Nepal’s hydropower infrastructure suffered significant damage in the floods, affecting domestic electricity generation and increasing the country’s power needs.
The quantum of power exports from January 2027 will be reviewed in December 2026. The decision is expected to strengthen the longstanding energy cooperation between India and Nepal.
