The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has intensified action against illegally modified vehicles, collecting nearly ₹1 crore in penalties within just 44 days.
According to official figures, fines were imposed on 1,528 vehicles during May alone, amounting to ₹86.35 lakh. The department has already recovered ₹14.85 lakh, while ₹71.50 lakh remains pending from violators.
In June, authorities have registered 480 cases so far and collected around ₹14 lakh in fines.
Officials said the number of vehicle modifications had been increasing as many owners believed such alterations would not attract penalties. The department has warned that strict enforcement will continue against vehicles modified in violation of motor vehicle regulations.
