PM Congratulates Major Abhilasha Barak on UN Military Gender Advocate Award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Major Abhilasha Barak for being conferred the United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award.

In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister noted that Major Barak is currently serving as an Engagement Team Commander and Gender Focal Point with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Lebanon.

Modi said the prestigious honour recognizes Major Barak’s exemplary service and dedication, while also highlighting India’s longstanding contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations around the world.

He further remarked that her achievement serves as an inspiration to countless young Indians, particularly young women aspiring to serve the nation and humanity through public service and the armed forces.

“Congratulations to Major Abhilasha Barak on being conferred the UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award. This honour is a recognition of her exemplary service and also of India’s longstanding contribution to United Nations peacekeeping efforts,” the Prime Minister said.

The award is presented annually by the United Nations to military peacekeepers who have made outstanding contributions to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women in peacekeeping operations.
