Chennai: Residents of Vazhudambedu Colony in Gummidipoondi taluk of Tamil Nadu were able to enter the Arulmigu Pidari Ettiamman temple and offer prayers after it was unsealed and reopened on Sept 16.
The villagers mostly belonging to the Scheduled Castes ,were denied entry in to the temple last month after a group of caste Hindus conducted a kumbhabhishekam there.
District Collector, T Prabhushankar who led the villagers into the temple said that the dominant caste members were told that they must live in peace with all castes.
“The dispute arose after the Adi Dravidars were not allowed to use the pathway to the templeby persons of caste Hindu group. Since the land actually belongs to the temple, we explained it to the residents of both the communities and they agreed to a compromise”, Prabhushankar said.
The temple was sealed on the day of the event to prevent any law and order issues.
The temple was sealed twice earlier too due to differences between the two communities.
A resident said the temple would hopefully not be sealed again and people of all communities would continue to enjoy being able to worship inside the temple.
