UN Chief Guterres Meets PM Modi, Discusses West Asia and Ukraine Conflicts

New Delhi: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday and held wide-ranging discussions on the ongoing conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine, as well as their impact on the global economy.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, being hosted by India on September 12 and 13.

According to the UN Secretary-General’s office, the two leaders discussed the current conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine and their wider economic repercussions, particularly their impact on access to food and fertilisers.

Guterres also reaffirmed the importance of the principle of freedom of navigation during the meeting.

The discussions come amid continued international efforts to address the conflicts and limit their economic and humanitarian consequences.
