The District Medical Officer (DMO) of Palakkad has denied reports that cholera cases were confirmed in the district, contradicting an earlier statement made by Health Minister K. Muraleedharan.
DMO Dr. T.V. Rosh clarified that no cholera cases have been reported in Palakkad. Following the DMO’s statement, the Health Department also revised its earlier position.
On Friday, the minister had stated that two people in Palakkad had been diagnosed with cholera. However, health officials later explained that residents from Ongallur and Lakkidi-Perur were only suspected of having the disease, and subsequent tests ruled out cholera.
The Health Department said both individuals showed symptoms similar to cholera, but microbiological laboratory tests returned negative results. Authorities reiterated that no confirmed cholera cases have been detected in the district.
