Maharashtra: A family dispute over a mobile phone purchase ended in tragedy in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday, after a teenager and both his parents died in a sequence of falls from Khavda Hill near Tisgaon.
The 18-year-old boy had reportedly gone to the hill following an argument with his parents over his demand for an expensive mobile phone. According to police reports cited by multiple media outlets, the teenager had purchased an iPhone and was seeking money from his family to pay the instalments.
After reaching the hilltop, the teenager reportedly stood near the edge and threatened to jump. His parents, along with villagers and police personnel, spent nearly three hours trying to persuade him to move to safety. Fire brigade personnel also attempted to arrange a safety net below the hill.
During the final stages of the rescue effort, the boy’s father climbed towards him and tried to pull him away from the edge. The teenager fell, and his father also lost his balance while attempting to save him. The boy’s mother fell moments later.
All three were killed in the incident. Police recovered the bodies and sent them for further formalities.
The incident has shocked the local community, with authorities continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
