Bhubaneswar: Incessant rain triggered by a low-pressure system disrupted normal life in several parts of Odisha on Saturday, with roads and bridges submerged at multiple locations, officials said.
The state government is closely monitoring the situation as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rainfall over the next 48 hours.
Malkangiri in southern Odisha emerged as the worst-affected district, recording 804 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending Saturday morning.
The heavy downpour led to waterlogging and the submergence of roads and bridges in several areas, affecting transportation and daily life.
“The state government is maintaining close and continuous monitoring of the weather and river situation. Necessary precautionary and response measures are in place, and the overall situation remains under control,” the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said in a statement.
Authorities are keeping a close watch on river levels and weather conditions and have put necessary precautionary and response measures in place to deal with any emerging situation.
