Kharge Accuses Modi of ‘Killing’ Women’s Quota Bill, Clarifies Opposition Stand

Cooch Behar/Siliguri: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was responsible for the failure of the Constitution amendment bill aimed at implementing women’s reservation in legislatures from 2029.

Kharge asserted that while the Opposition supported women’s quota, it had opposed only the delimitation bill linked to the proposal. He accused the Centre of mishandling the legislative process, leading to the bill’s collapse.

Taking a swipe at Modi’s extensive campaigning in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections, Kharge questioned whether the Prime Minister intended to become the state’s chief minister or continue in his current role.

He also alleged that Modi had been spending excessive time in the state for poll campaigning, at the cost of his official responsibilities.
