THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Forest Minister Shibu Baby John has said that the state government will take up with the Centre the practical difficulties involved in dealing with dangerous wild animals and will formulate a comprehensive, multi-layered strategy to address the increasing incidents of human-wildlife conflict.
Replying to a question in the Kerala Assembly on Wednesday, the minister said the government is working on an integrated action plan that will make use of scientific equipment and modern technology to prevent attacks by wild animals and improve response mechanisms.
He noted that existing laws do not permit the killing of wild animals solely because they are aggressive. However, the Chief Wildlife Warden has the authority to order the elimination of animals that pose a direct threat to human life.
The minister said the state is exploring long-term solutions to reduce human-wildlife conflicts while ensuring the protection of both human lives and wildlife.
