Kerala Braces for Heavy Rain Till April 8: Yellow Alert Issued in Four Districts

Thiruvananthapuram – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued heavy rainfall across Kerala until April 8, 2025, with a yellow alert in place for four districts on Saturday. The districts of Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad are likely to receive isolated heavy rainfalls ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

Alongside heavy downpours, the IMD has also warned of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h in isolated areas of the state until April 6. Residents, especially in hilly and coastal regions, are urged to remain cautious due to the unpredictable weather conditions.

Yellow Alert Districts:

  • Saturday, April 5: Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad
  • Sunday, April 6: Malappuram, Wayanad

The changing weather patterns have raised concerns about landslides in vulnerable hilly areas and waterlogging in low-lying regions. Authorities have issued a series of safety advisories to help residents stay safe during the unstable weather.

Safety Advisory:

  • Avoid staying in vulnerable structures during intense rainfall or thunderstorms.
  • Seek safe shelter during lightning activity.
  • Exercise caution while commuting due to potential waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
  • Residents in hilly areas should stay alert for possible landslides and mudslides.

Additionally, fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the Andaman Sea, where squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h, is expected from April 6 to 8.

As Kerala faces days of intense weather, the IMD urges the public to stay updated with official forecasts and follow all instructions issued by local authorities to ensure personal safety.
