Kochi: In a bold move to oppose the recent hike in court fees by the state government, the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA) is preparing to take the matter to court. The association announced plans to file a petition in the Kerala High Court, warning that the revised fee structure could severely hamper public access to justice.
During a General Body meeting, the KHCAA also greenlit a token strike on Wednesday, April 9, contingent upon collective support from Bar Associations across Kerala. The decision comes amid growing unrest within the legal community and among litigants who feel burdened by the increased financial demands.
Calling the court fee hike “unreasonable and exclusionary,” the KHCAA emphasized that justice should remain accessible to all citizens, regardless of their economic status.
As talks intensify among legal bodies across the state, more coordinated actions may be on the horizon in the coming days.
