Phuket: The Indian naval vessel INS Sunayna, deployed as part of the Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR mission, departed Phuket, Thailand on April 17 after completing a high-tempo three-day operational turnaround.
During its port call, the ship engaged in a series of professional, strategic and cultural interactions with the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), aimed at enhancing bilateral maritime cooperation. Commanding Officer Commander Siddharth Chaudhary met Rear Admiral Sathaporn Wajarat, Chief of Staff of the RTN’s Third Naval Area Command, reaffirming mutual commitment to regional maritime collaboration.
The visit also featured joint activities including a friendly football match and a yoga session involving personnel from both navies, strengthening interpersonal ties. A formal reception held onboard the vessel was attended by senior naval officials, providing a platform for discussions on maritime security and cooperation. The ship was also opened to visitors, promoting people-to-people engagement.
Operational coordination was demonstrated through a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) conducted with HTMS Klongyai, involving communication drills and formation manoeuvres, showcasing seamless interoperability between the two navies.
Following the successful visit, INS Sunayna has now set sail for Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of its ongoing mission to enhance maritime cooperation in the Southeast Indian Ocean region.
