China Felt Stigmatised by Global Community Over COVID-19, Says Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri

Mumbai: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Saturday that China believed it was being blamed and stigmatised by the international community over the COVID-19 pandemic, a perception that contributed to its increasingly tough approach towards the outside world and strict lockdown measures within the country.

Speaking at the Iqwat Global Business Conclave, organised by an association of Kashmiri Pandits, Misri discussed China’s response to the pandemic and its relations with other countries.

He also recalled the challenges he faced during his tenure as India’s Ambassador to China, particularly during the unprecedented military confrontation between India and China in the Galwan Valley of eastern Ladakh.
