Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday criticised the Centre’s ethanol-blending policy, alleging that ethanol has become “a new name for profiteering” and that the policy benefits a select group at the expense of consumers.
In a statement, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister described the ethanol-blending programme as a government-backed arrangement involving the government, ethanol manufacturers and oil companies.
“‘Ethanol’ is the new name for profiteering. It is a three-way partnership between the government, ethanol producers and oil companies,” Yadav said, claiming that the policy primarily serves the interests of these stakeholders while placing an additional burden on consumers.
