Kerala’s pioneering Kerala Fibre Optic Network (KFON) is now ready to spread its wings across the nation. With the acquisition of a prestigious Category ‘A’ ISP license, KFON is officially authorized to provide broadband internet services throughout India.
What began as a bold state-level initiative by the LDF government is now poised to become a national game-changer in affordable connectivity. The mission: deliver free internet to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and low-cost access to everyone else. With over 31,153 km of fiber optic cable already laid across Kerala, KFON boasts one of the most extensive and robust digital infrastructures in the country.
This new license empowers KFON to expand operations to other states, set up fresh network systems, and even partner with top-tier telecom providers to deepen its reach. It also builds on earlier milestones, with KFON already holding licenses for IP infrastructure and National Long Distance (NLD) operations.
So far, KFON has provided 1,07,328 internet connections across Kerala. Of these, 14,151 connections were given to BPL households, 67,097 to other homes, and 23,163 to government offices.
With the new national license in hand, KFON is now poised to emerge as a major player in India’s broadband sector, offering reliable, affordable, and inclusive internet services across the country.
