Trump Approves Saudi Nuclear Deal with Uranium Enrichment Provision: Report

Washington: US President Donald Trump has approved a landmark nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia that could allow the kingdom to enrich uranium for its civilian nuclear programme, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity as the agreement has not yet been formally announced, said the deal is expected to be made public as early as Wednesday.

The proposed agreement is expected to remain in force for 30 years and will involve American companies in the development of Saudi Arabia’s civilian nuclear programme.

As part of the pact, Saudi Arabia could be permitted to build a uranium enrichment facility following a joint feasibility study conducted by the United States and Saudi Arabia. The agreement marks a significant step in bilateral nuclear cooperation and is likely to draw international attention due to the sensitive nature of uranium enrichment technology.
