Three Test Positive for Shigella After Kochi Hotel Food Poisoning

Kochi: Shigella infection has been confirmed in people who fell ill after consuming food from Al Reem Hotel in Kochi. The bacteria was detected in samples collected from three patients receiving treatment. Following the incident, the North Police registered a case against the hotel, while the Food Safety Department ordered its closure.

A total of 40 people were hospitalised after eating food from the hotel on July 10 and 11. Of the 15 samples tested, three were found positive for Shigella infection.

The hotel owner denied that the food was prepared in unhygienic conditions and claimed the infection may have originated from the water supplied by the Kochi Corporation.
