New Delhi: Ladakh-based environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk entered the 18th day of his indefinite hunger strike on Wednesday, with leaders from several political parties visiting him at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to express solidarity.
Wangchuk, who is demanding action on issues concerning Ladakh, remains under 24-hour medical supervision. According to the latest medical bulletin, his condition is very weak, though doctors continue to monitor him round the clock.
During the protest, Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), criticised the Centre, accusing the government of being “cruel” for refusing to hold talks with Wangchuk despite his prolonged fast.
Meanwhile, the CJP’s protest over the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination entered its 26th day. The organisation has announced a one-day mass hunger strike on Thursday, ahead of its proposed “Chalo Sansad” march scheduled for July 20.
The demonstrations continue amid growing calls from activists and opposition leaders for the government to engage in dialogue with the protesters.
