The Centre will launch a nationwide month-long ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ from June 1 to June 30 with a focus on promoting balanced use of fertilisers, improving farm productivity and providing timely guidance to farmers.
Chairing a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Friday, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the campaign aims to become a comprehensive national movement connecting farms, farmers and villages.
The minister said the campaign will emphasize the judicious use of fertilisers based on soil testing, reduction in excessive chemical fertiliser use, and greater adoption of organic, bio-based and green manure alternatives. Live demonstrations on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) will also be conducted.
Farmers will be provided location-specific advice on weather-related challenges, crop selection, crop diversification and water management. Chouhan said the objective is to deliver practical guidance directly at the farm level rather than merely creating awareness.
The campaign will be jointly implemented by Panchayats, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and state governments. Benefits of various government schemes will also be delivered to farmers during the campaign.
The Union Minister said public representatives, including chief ministers, ministers, MPs and MLAs, will be encouraged to participate in the initiative to transform it into a nationwide mass movement.
