New Delhi: General N.S. Raja Subramani on Sunday assumed charge as India’s new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Anil Chauhan, who completed his tenure on Saturday.
A senior military officer with extensive experience in matters relating to Pakistan and China, Gen Subramani takes over as the country’s top military commander with a key mandate to advance the government’s military theatreisation plan and strengthen coordination among the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Before his appointment as CDS, Gen Subramani served as the Military Adviser at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). He had earlier held the post of Vice Chief of Army Staff before retiring from the Army on July 31, 2025.
His appointment comes at a crucial time as India continues efforts to enhance jointness and operational integration among the three armed services.
