Glasgow: India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games after recording a season-best throw of 85.83m under challenging weather conditions on Friday.
The 28-year-old Tokyo Olympic champion achieved his best throw in his second attempt, improving slightly on his previous season-best of 85.69m, which he recorded at the Doha Diamond League in June.
In a remarkable performance, Yashvir Singh won the bronze medal on his Commonwealth Games debut with a personal-best throw of 85.41m in his sixth and final attempt. The 24-year-old had been in seventh place before producing his career-best effort to climb onto the podium.
Yashvir’s previous personal best was 83.72m, making his final throw a significant breakthrough. With Chopra taking silver and Yashvir claiming bronze, India celebrated a double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw event.
