hinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday strongly opposed the ongoing US-Israel military actions against Iran and warned that disruptions to shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz could seriously affect global trade.
The remarks came after day-long talks between the two leaders in Beijing.
In a joint statement issued after the meeting, China and Russia described the US and Israeli strikes on Iran as “illegal” and said the attacks were undermining stability in the Middle East.
The statement also warned that restrictions on maritime shipping imposed by “individual states” posed a threat to international trade, in an apparent reference to tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
Xi and Putin also criticised US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” missile defence shield plan during their discussions.
